Who Has the Time?
Joune Strum ![]() WINNER: TOP SIX PROPOSALS Juror's Comments: (Selected by juror as Best in Show) "because it has a unique idea to show (using a real clock)". (Selected as Best Concept)"It is a much needed view for positive change." Artistic Statement Talking, listening, understanding, and service represented in the four short statements in the inner circle. “Does anybody care?” - taking time to care for others and time for service. “Does anybody know?” - taking the time to find the answers, learn, research, find out, and talk to people. “I’m so confused…” - take the time to explain things, understand, and ultimately listen to others. “Find me…” - time to be a friend, stay connected, and reach out to others. Life swirls before us following the movement of the clock. On the outside a question that is often asked but rarely considered, do we have the time… to talk, listen, understand, and serve others? Technical Explanation This transformation of space is in
the Martin Luther King Jr. Commons. This is all at ground level
with the exception of the hands and spinning text/picture. The
spinning text/picture would in actuality be a clear plastic table that
you could turn much like a merry-go-round only waist-high. The
hands of the clock would also be made out of plastic and moveable.
The hands would be light enough to move with little effort and move
independently of each other. Also their edges would be
rounded so as to hopefully prevent injury. It is my hope that
people will interact with this piece.
