Mistake Reel Speech

Mistake reel speech (audio)
2004 Wood, microphone, typewriter mistake reel, and audio recording of reading mistake reel from artist's employment
This work presents the scenario of self-effacing speech when attempting to present oneself in a professional manner. The correction reel records several months' worth of my own mistakes at my current employer, Northern Illinois University's Rare Books and Special Collections. The audio is a recording of my reading the tape aloud: a meekly read, dull speech focusing on my faults. As I prepare for job interviews, this work purges me of divulging insecurities to others.

2003 Public Performance in downtown DeKalb. Performance interwoven with Gretchen Misselt's. Duration 2 hours.
Performance of writing affectionate text that gets obliterated by the water trail from Gretchen's leaking bucket pacing. Affectionate expressions get washed away by everyday survival and toil, especially in public settings.

Clock is a two screen video work. Details below.
